Ever felt like your dreams are just out of reach, and no matter how much you think about them, they never seem to materialize? You're not alone. Today, I'm breaking down the stark contrast between daydreaming and the unglamorous, yet crucial act of commitment. As we traverse the entrepreneurial landscape and personal development terrain, I'm sharing insights into the common traps of work ethic and the robust structures necessary for true success. It's not merely about grand ideas; it's about rolling up your sleeves and sticking to your guns—even when life throws you off course.

Emotions can be fickle, and they often dictate our thoughts. But what happens when commitment steps in to steady the ship? In this heart-to-heart, I reveal my own rollercoaster ride through negativity and optimism, and how these experiences shaped my resolve. Battling health issues while keeping the podcast afloat taught me an invaluable lesson about maintaining integrity through trying times. No matter the personal costs, upholding our commitments is what defines us. Let me take you through my journey of steadfast dedication to bring you the content that fuels your purpose-filled life.

As we wrap up, remember that your voice is the engine of this podcast. The discussions we have, the content we create—it's all influenced by the feedback you leave on platforms like YouTube. Speaker 1:

Welcome to Live In In Purpose On Purpose. I'm your host, jamie Hansel, and welcome to my podcast. What's up everybody? It's your favorite podcast host, jamie Hansel, and we are back at it again with another episode. I completely forgot that this month actually has 5 Sundays, so that means 5 episodes this month. I know last week I mentioned that we're going to have an interview this week, but that's totally the last episode of the month, which is actually next week. You guys have to tune in next week 7pm, wherever you get your podcast, and if you're watching this on YouTube, obviously it's going to be on Wednesday.

Speaker 1:

We're going to get right into it today, guys. As you can see also, or as you can hear, we did kind of flip back to our old intro song, if you know. You know if you've been rocking with us for a while here on Live In In Purpose On Purpose, that's the OG song. I was just feeling the vibes. Let's switch it back this week. Long story short, we're going to get right into today's episode. We're talking about thoughts versus commitment today.

Speaker 1:

I think this is a major thing. I know last week I was already talking about entrepreneurs and things like that and I think I have to run it back again for another time today, only because I feel like entrepreneurs, we need a little bit more love. We need a little bit more tender love, because we sometimes get a little beside ourselves. Meaning that we are entrepreneurs and we're pretty much self-sufficient is what I'm trying to say With being self-sufficient. That can be a blessing and a curse. The only reason why I say that is because a lot of us, as entrepreneurs, we lack a lot of work ethic including myself. Sometimes I do too. I feel like we lack that ability to really separate the girls from the women, the boys from the men. We lack a lot of things like customer service policies, procedures and structure, things that honestly make a business run, make the world go round when we have our jobs, and things like that. Everything is very clear and concise. It's very clean cut and sometimes we get a business and we say I can't wait to report to nobody, I don't want to have to do this, I don't want to do that, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't. We say a lot of things we don't want to do because we're now creating a business. I'm like, hmm, I'm about five or six years in to be a full-time entrepreneur, I'm like, hmm, newsflash, actually, you still have to do those things. It's just now. Instead of reporting to somebody else, you report to yourself. But all of those things that you were doing at that nine to five you should still currently be doing right now.

Speaker 1:

But anyways, we're not talking about that. We're not talking about that, jamie. We're talking about thoughts versus commitment. The only reason why I brought that up is because it's very important to not just have a thought of something but to actually commit ourselves. And again, we're talking to entrepreneurs. But this can apply to so many different areas, so many different people, so many different goals and aspirations. It does not have to just be business related, it can just be purpose related. Sometimes, purpose is not a business, purpose is not being an entrepreneur. Purpose does not mean that you have to go and create this company or join companies with someone. It does not mean that.

Speaker 1:

So today, when we're talking about thoughts versus commitment, I just want to talk to people, talk to you guys, about not just allowing your thoughts to kind of dictate what you're doing. What do I mean by that? I mean, sometimes we will think certain things and we'll say, oh, I'm going to lose 30 pounds this month. Okay, that's a little obsessive, but I'm going to lose 30 pounds this month Cool, that's great Congratulations. But yet you do not create any type of atmosphere to actually commit yourself to losing 30 pounds. It's literally just a thought. However, if you make a commitment and you are committed to lose 30 pounds, what does that look like? You're creating meal plans, you are meal prepping, you are creating a workout schedule, you're actually going to the gym, you are taking your vitamins, you are taking your protein, like you're doing so many other things, and, as you can see, when you had a thought, it was literally what? Just words, just a thought. But when I said all the things that was connected to commitment, what were those things? Those were actual actions and behaviors, things that you're actually doing, that you're putting forth. You cannot just be a thinker. You can't just leave it at thinking. You got to commit and do the things. Do the things that are required, commit yourselves to actually put in the work ethic behind it, committing to the action and saying this is what I'm going to do, because I commit myself to this.

Speaker 1:

Commitment is not just a word. Ok, it's not just a word, it's all action and, of course, it is technically a word. However, I honestly feel like it's an action word, like it's literally an action word. It's something that you have to physically get up and do every single day. You have to have a made-up mind to be committed. Yes, that is true. However, you can have a thought and not be committed. But when you're committed, you have to have both.

Speaker 1:

When you're committed, you have to have the recurrent thought that this is what you want to do every single day. But when you just have the thought and you say, oh, I want to do this, I want to do this, I want to do this, if you do not have the commitment to match or the follow-up behind that baby, you are not going anywhere. You're not going anywhere. This is literally just going to be a one-stop shop. You're not getting anywhere with this because it's literally stopping at the tip of your tongue. It's stopping at your voice. You're stopping at the thought in your head. You're voicing your head. There's no movement coming from that. Thoughts are very convenient. It's very easy to say, oh, I'm going to change in this area, or I'm going to do this in this area, or I'm going to start doing this. It's very convenient, but with commitment.

Speaker 1:

There's no excuses. If you're committed, you get up every day and you do what you're doing, and that's just point-and-plane period. You are getting up and you're doing this every day, or however the schedule is, and maybe something you do every other day or every week, every month. Whatever the case may be, there is no excuses for commitment and that's just how it always has been. Someone that's committed will always have more to show for it than people who are just great thinkers. Now we do need thinkers. Thinkers make the world go round. However, thinkers do not make the world go around without the help of committers, people who are committed to things, people who are dedicated to things, those dedicated people, because without that, it would just stop at the thinkers. The thinkers will think the thing, they will think the thought and that's just that. It literally stops in your mind. There's nowhere else for it to go. The ordeal never have the results or you never have the honestly, the integrity to just do what you're saying you're going to do, and that's a very scary thing.

Speaker 1:

I was talking to my mom about it earlier and I was just telling her I was like I would say I'm a very committed person. When I start something, I like to follow through, I like to keep going, I like to be committed. I don't like to begin things and don't follow through with them. I don't like to say I'm going to do something and I don't. I really hate that. I don't like doing that because I just feel like it's a telling thing for you to do or a telling person for you to be. If you're a person that starts things all the time but you never finished them, that says a lot about your character. And for me, I feel like my character is very important, not just for people, obviously, but just for myself Within myself. I really am committed to having a character of value and I try to live my life every day on purpose and in purpose, just so I can make sure that my character is of some type of value.

Speaker 1:

And when I was telling her that I was telling her sometimes I am a very bad thinker and I was trying to explain it to her, I was saying well, I'm very committed. I think I have a pretty good work ethic. Could it be better? Of course always. However, it's not the worst. And I told her that I'm a very bad thinker and as I went to explain to her. I'm like sometimes I can thank myself out of a situation Not even out of a situation but I can thank myself out of doing something before I even begin.

Speaker 1:

So what that means is I'll have something already on my plate and I would think of a great idea and I would want to do something, and I would sit there and I'm like, no, I don't know, jamie, are you gonna have the support for that? You know, are people gonna vibe with that? Or do you have the capacity to create that right now? Do you have the schedule, the time to do that? Do you have the knowledge to put that out? Did you work on this? Did you work on that? Are you committed to do this? And before you know it, I'm just like you know what. It's okay. It's okay, I got all this stuff going on. I don't gotta do it. I don't gotta do it. Great idea, great idea, but I'm not committed.

Speaker 1:

And it's one of the things that I feel like is bittersweet. It's bitter because, dang, you know how many things have. I could have began that I did not. But it's sweet because it's like how many of those things would I've actually followed through with? Because every thought or every idea does not mean that you need to run with it Every time you think of something, does not mean that you have to say it Same thing with this Every idea that you have, every thought that you have. You don't have to actually go out and do it, and even if you have people that you think maybe would be great at doing whatever it is, you can even suggest it to them. But, honestly, you don't have to do everything that you think of Every idea that you have. You do not have to actually go and try to start this, because it's better to be committed and do the few things rather than start a million things and never finish any of it.

Speaker 1:

I want people to be able to look at my name and research me and look me up on Google and see all the great works that I've done or the things that I'm currently doing. I don't want them to see things where oh yeah, she started this foundation, but it never went anywhere and we never had anything else after she launched it and that was just that. Yeah, she started this business and we thought she was doing this. However, it fell off the face of the earth and we haven't. I don't want to do that. As you can see, I've been rocking on my podcast for a few years now.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying I didn't take any breaks in between, because mental health comes first, but I try to stay committed as I can. Why? Because this is my baby. This is something that I created, and I want to show people that commitment is way better than just having a good idea. Don't get me wrong all commitments come from a great idea, but some great ideas just they're just ideas. They're really nothing else. There's nothing else to it. It's just great ideas. And I don't want to just be a great idea. I don't want to just have a great idea. I want to have great, great receipts of things that I was committed to, great things or great works that I've done that people can look at and see and that I can physically say I worked hard for it, I was committed on making it work.

Speaker 1:

Now, when it comes to thoughts, there's many things I can say, but thoughts are literally, I would say, connected to emotional changes. So, as you have different types of emotional plateaus and heights and things like that in lows, I feel like your thoughts change with that. You know when you're in a bad mood one day. It's like your thoughts are just kind of negative. You know, like you don't really have many positive thoughts that day. You're just like, oh, like something can happen, and you automatically just think about the negative. You automatically think about all that sucks, this is that, this is that, whereas somebody else, who may be in a more positive space that day, they're like, hey, why do you say that's bad, that's actually pretty good. That can be X, y and Z. That's why I believe that thoughts are usually attached to emotional changes.

Speaker 1:

However, commitment is attached to integrity. Commitment is saying even though today I do not feel like it, even though today I am pissed, even though today I am sick, even though today I am not feeling well, even though today I am aggravated, I'm agitated, I'm tired, I'm unmotivated, I'm uninspired, even though today I'm all of these things, I am committed, and when I'm committed, that means my integrity will outweigh any emotion that I have. Like I said, I'm not saying that we don't have our days. I'm not saying that some days you're going to just choose to be at peace with, I'm not doing it today. I'm just not doing it.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes I have those days. Sometimes I'm forced to have those days, just this past week, I actually was in the hospital. That's why we're not gonna have a video recording this week, so Wednesday we will not, unfortunately, have a YouTube video to match this but I was in the hospital and that day I woke up. I'm like, okay, I have this to do this thing to complete this stuff, x, y and Z. And within a few hours I immediately was ill, I mean bed written ill, and I was there literally all day, up until about eight or nine o'clock at night, where my sister actually had to come and assist me with getting over to the hospital.

Speaker 1:

And I was in the hospital for a few hours, until around midnight or whatever, and came home and it put me back even further in like, granted, I was committed and I was like, okay, let's do this thing, let's do this thing, but I just physically could not. I physically could not, I could not. I would try to work, I would try to edit my photos, I would try to work on my homework. You know, I'm in school right now, again getting another degree, and I'm like, dang, this sucks, like this really sucks, like I really can't do much of anything. And it was just one of those things where I'm like, okay, I'm not able to this, I'm not able to do that, but I'm committed to doing something and even when I was trying to do that, I still couldn't. I couldn't do anything.

Speaker 1:

However, today I wanted to show up. I'm still not 100% better, I'm still not in a space where I am like Completely recovered, but I'm committed to making this podcast work. I'm committed to changing lives. I'm committed to living in purpose on purpose. I'm committed to doing the things that I Committed myself to do, the things that my integrity will not allow me now to slip up in and not commit myself to. Even though my emotional changes, my thoughts even, were not even in the space to Do whatever, I still kept going and I'm still going. Why? Because I'm committed to Putting this information out for you guys and committed to helping you guys living your purpose on purpose. Why? Because I know that's going to change not only your life but the people around you, the people that are connected to you.

Speaker 1:

Having motivation is literally a short-term Emotion. It's a short-term thought saying, oh, I'm motivated, I'm motivated, I'm inspired, let's do this. It's very short term. You're not always going to be motivated. You're not gonna always be thinking about being inspired and how to inspire more people. And let's do this, let's do that. You're not gonna always feel that in my entrepreneurs.

Speaker 1:

You guys know that some days, like you know you made the conscious decision in the commitment to create a business, but some days you're like, get me out of here, give me out of this place. I don't want it, I don't want it, no more. Like I don't, I don't want it, and I even have those days still. February was one of those months. I'm like I don't want to do this anymore. This sucks. Granted, it was my emotions talking, but I know I had a commitment. So I got out of my head, I got out of my thoughts and I got up and I kept going and March has been one of the best months for my business so far this year and, granted, I know we're only in the third month, but it's the best month. January Not so good, february terrible. And here go March, coming in a blazing hot great.

Speaker 1:

It's just one of those things where it's like you can't allow your Thoughts to kind of stop you at a certain point, but it also you can't. Also you can't let your thoughts also Confuse you or not even confuse you, but you can't allow your thoughts to finesse you into thinking that you got a lot going on. You really have nothing Going on other than the bare minimum. Thoughts would allow you to continue to live the bare minimum Version of your life for the rest of your life. And I don't know about y'all, but I do not. I want the most extravagant, extra poppin, amazing life or Version of my life that I possibly can't have. That's what I want. I don't want the bare minimum. For what? Life is already hard enough to have the bare minimum. No, no, thank you. Choose another person. Shoes gives somebody else. Do it next caller. Because I don't want to have the bare minimum life. I don't want to live my life in a bare minimum status. Like I said, life is already hard enough. Why would we sit here and do the bare minimum? Why would we sit here and just allow our thoughts to take over and to finesse us and to think it? We're doing more than what we actually are.

Speaker 1:

Commit yourself, commit yourself today of what you're gonna do. Like I know, the Bible says choose this day who you're gonna serve. But it's kind of similar like choose today, commit today. What are, what are you gonna do today to make your life better tomorrow. You're not always gonna be motivated, like I said, or whatever, but if you're are committed, that's something that's very long-lasting. Even when you are completely unmotivated, completely uninspired, you're still gonna be committed, you're still gonna make it happen. Why? Because your integrity will allow you to show up every time for yourself. Your thoughts will fail you because your thoughts are attached to your emotions. And as long as your thoughts are attached to your emotions, emotions are forever changing. They are very, very, very interchangeable. One minute you can be happy with a woman. I Hate to be that person, but sometimes we are a lot more emotional than men and you know how our emotions can be sometimes. Sometimes we can be up, sometimes we'll be down, but don't Allow your thoughts to kind of take over.

Speaker 1:

Commit today, commit. What do you want to do. Commit today that you're gonna live in purpose on purpose. Commit today. If you want to start that business, start today. You don't have to launch today, you don't have to create this business today, because I am a firm believer of being logical. In anybody who know me or anybody who know me currently, it doesn't matter which Time of my life You've known me. I'm still the same way when it comes to this. But I'm a very logical person. We're not just gonna be operating off of smiles and giggles and laughter and in Sunshine and rainbows, like, no, okay, what do we need to do? Let's get down to nitty gritty. What's the timeline, what's the to-do list? How are we gonna get there? What are we gonna do with it? Like, we need to get down to the logical aspects of that. So that's what I'm saying when you've got to commit yourself today, there's not mean to launch your business today. That's not me to go ahead and make a new Facebook and say, hey, follow my business page coming soon. No, no, don't do that, don't do that. But when I say commit today, that means starting. Get that notebook, write down what you need to do, start researching things. I'm helping a friend right now. He wants to launch a new business and I was like, hey, I have no idea with that industry. However, I can help you wherever I can.

Speaker 1:

Let's start with number one. What do you want this company to look like? What do you? What services do you want to offer? Do you want to offer any products Like? What do you that look like? Okay, cool, once you get that.

Speaker 1:

Look up your research, your competitors. Well, how much are they charging? What are the services they offer? What does their, what does a day in the life of their business look like? Not to come, not to compare or to or to copy or to mimic, it's just to get an idea, because if you're going into a brand new industry, everybody don't create businesses based on what they are normal or like likely to do. Some people come up with great ideas and it's completely different from who they are, how they are, what they like. It's just completely different.

Speaker 1:

So what do you have to do? It is not that you have to do something that you absolutely are 1,000% sure about within your like. You can do it. No, that's why we have information out there. We have books, we have Google, we have YouTube, we have pinch. We have so many different things that gives you information. We have mentors, we have other companies that you can reach out to get the knowledge, get the information and keep it moving.

Speaker 1:

But I don't want people and I don't want you guys to let your thoughts enslave you into thinking you're evolving just because you believe you are. Do not, do not. Okay. Sometimes we are our, our biggest enemy. Sometimes we are the, the main person. We need to start beating up a little bit like no, sit down, girl, you, you, you're thinking that you're doing this. You're thinking that you're doing that. You're not, sir. You think you're evolving, you think, you believe, you're thinking. You're thinking, you're thinking, but you're not doing, you're not asking, you're not asking yourself what are your actions saying? Are your actions lining up with what you're doing, or what you're saying? Rather, or what you're thinking, you're telling people yeah, I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that, okay. Well, you've been saying that for quite a while. Buddy, where's the commitment? There is none.

Speaker 1:

Commitment shows proof in action, not just thoughts and feelings. Commitment always show proof. You always, when someone's committed, you can easily see oh, this person got this going on. Oh, really, they do. Yeah, look, this is this, this is that, this is this. This is that you can just show them, versus someone who just has thoughts going on and great ideas, yeah, so, and so got this going on. Oh, really, let me see. Oh, well, they just kind of told me they don't really got this out there yet, but they got, they're going to start, though. They're going to yeah, okay, yeah, okay, and it's not to put anyone down, but it's just to honestly put the fire under your boots to say you're not committed. You're not committed, you're just a great thinker. You're a great thinker, and that's about it.

Speaker 1:

Not saying that I'm taken away from what you're able to do or the ability that you have, but it's just you got to do more, you got to do more. You have to do more. Words and ideas are nothing without actions and behaviors, and that's just the pin drop. That's just the very end of this episode. I know it's very cut and dry, but I just.

Speaker 1:

This is just something really quick that I really wanted to tell you guys about, because I see a lot of times people are keep putting their thoughts out there on the internet, thoughts on the internet, and like they don't have any action behind what they're doing. They have no fruit from the trees that they have. Their tree is just barren. Their tree is just there's not nothing on it. But you want me to come eat from your tree? There's nothing there. I can't, I can't, I can't collab with you, I can't work with you, I can't help you, I can't, like there's no proof or evidence that you are a person of integrity to commit yourselves to whatever. It is so how you want me to commit and you don't want to commit.

Speaker 1:

But aside from that, speaking to yourself, how do you want to start something new and you haven't even done the other things? How do you want to create something new and you haven't even made the other things? How do you want to pick up a new whatever and you haven't even picked up the other thing that you picked up two years ago, again after you started that? It's time for us to get committed, guys. It's time for us to stop the whole want to be seen and just want to say we're doing something and actually want to live our life committed. We want to be committed in our lives and that's just what it is. That's all I got for y'all. That's all I got. That's all I got, because I mean, it's just time out for just thinking things and thinking the thoughts, and it's time for doing the things and being committed to our lives, and I promise you, your future self will always thank you later, always, always, always, always. So I thank you guys for tuning in today. Man, I really do. I appreciate you guys.

Speaker 1:

Shoot, shoot me a comment. If you're on YouTube, I know this episode won't be on YouTube, but if you watch any of the other episodes, just leave a comment on YouTube. Let me know how I'm doing, let me know how it's helping you guys. If it's not what you would like to hear more of, what you would like to see more of, I really would love your feedback. I do this just trying to live in my purpose on purpose, man. So I really appreciate you guys for tuning in and I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your week and until next time and, per usual, live life on purpose, thank you.
